The main purpose of this article is to explain about the University of London.

The University of London is unlike lots of other universities. It Comprising of eighteen autonomous member organizations with outstanding global standings and several prestigious central educational bodies and activities. The Member organizations are considering universities in their own right; they set their own access criteria for their courses and they offer their personal services to students. Few now too have their personal degree awarding powers. every student from all of the Member organizations are too University of London students, creation them part of a community of over 170,000 students and giving them access to lots of services in London.
Did you know that when creating your request through UCAS you can apply to up to 5 University of London Member organizations? They all reflect on separately when it comes to submitting. Postgraduate students apply directly to the organization, institutions they wish to study with.

Lots of stages of study are covered at the University of London with foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate degrees, as well as diplomas and explore degrees. The Member organizations also have a broad range of small courses and summer programs. Academic Quality

The University of London, its Central educational Bodies and its constituent Colleges enjoy an outstanding reputation for the high excellence of their teaching and explore. The Strategic Plan 2009-2014 places at the heart of its dream acknowledgment of the University’s quality of educational success. Its first aim is “to sustain and enhance the educational quality of the federal University.”
Within the governance structure of the University, the Collegiate Council has liability, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, for the determination of educational plan and policy and for the discharge of educational affairs. The Collegiate Council is chaired by the sub-Chancellor and consists of the 18 Heads of College and the Dean of the School of higher Study. Collegiate Council is supported in this by the educational excellence Advisory Committee which undertakes and submits to the Council the yearly University Quality Overview details. The Committee too promotes excellence enhancement and shares good educational practice across the University.
The University and all its eighteen Colleges are bodies established to award degrees by the section of commerce, Innovation, and abilities. They are all funded by the upper Education Funding Council for the UK and are all subject to audit by the excellence Assurance Agency for Higher Education.
For the advantage of the constituent Colleges of the University, its Central educational Bodies, and other attention parties, this site contains information on University educational policy, on the commerce of AQAC and on enhancement activities.
The University is the commitment to making its high excellence and flexible courses accessible to all students who have the capacity to advantage from them, and this admission and contribution Statement has been ready in connection with the England Government’s Teaching quality Framework.  The Statement highlights the kind and elasticity of courses offered by the University to a growing diverse range of individuals and groups who might otherwise be expelled.

The Foundation of the University, 1836

The University of London was established by Royal Charter on twenty-eight November 1836 and is the 3rd oldest university in the UK.
The 2 founding Colleges of the University, UCL (established 1826) and King’s College London (established 1829), both predate the University, as do lots of other of the University’s constituent organizations. For example, St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School (the now branch of Queen Mary) and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School (the now branch of King’s College London) both have 12-century origins.
The University of London was primarily founded to act as an investigative body for its Colleges and other ‘approved organizations’. It acted solely on this capability until 1858.
The University awarded its 1st degrees back in 1839 to twenty-nine students. Today more than 170,000 scholars learning at its eighteen prestigious Colleges and through its distance learning programmed in 1 hundred eighty countries receive University of London degrees every year.

The birth of distance education and the establishment of the Teaching University

The University in 1858 opens its degrees to every (M) student, regardless of their position.
Today over 54,000 students in 1 hundred eighty countries study for a University of London degree through the University of London global Programmes.
Towards the end of the nineteen century, the University became other than just an examining body and was founded as a federal ‘Teaching University’. The University of London Act was approved in 1898, after which the University monitored course content and educational excellence in the Colleges through centrally-situated faculties and Boards of Studies.
The University’s Statutes distinguished among the examination of students – those drawn from the Colleges, or Schools of the University – and outside students.
The University of London has been a pioneering force in upper education from its early years. It introduced lots of new subjects into university education, with modern languages and laboratory science. Its degrees have forever been awarded regardless of race, creed or political belief.
In 1878 London became the 1st university in England to admit women to its degrees. In 1880, 4 women passed the BA examination and in 1881 2 women obtained a BSc. By 1895, over 10% of the graduates were women and by 1900 the proportion had increased to 30%.
By 1908, the University of London had over 4 thousand registered students, exceeding the universities of together Oxford and Cambridge, becoming the biggest university in the England and the 5th biggest in the globe.
